Indian River County was created in 1925. It was named for the Indian
River Lagoon, which runs through the eastern portion of the county.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area
of 617 square miles, 114 square miles of it water (18.43%). Approximately
136,000 people call Indian River County their home.
Indian River County is conveniently located halfway between Miami and Jacksonville and directly across the state from Tampa. It is approximately 1 ½ hour from Orlando and Palm Beach, a big plus for visitors and business travelers. It is home to general aviation manufacturer Piper Aircraft and Velocity Aircraft as well as the CVS distribution Center.
Indian River County enjoys a moderate climate with the average temperature of about 74 degrees. Agriculture has been the county's largest industry and is home to ‘The World Famous Indian River Citrus' that is sold world wide.
